The Penwith Moot will not be organising a ritual for Yule
this year, however moot members and friends are encouraged to visit Penzance on
Monday the 21st of December to join in with the Montol Festival – a celebration
of traditional Cornish midwinter customs including guise dancing, guise beasts,
fires and the ‘Chalking of the Mock’ ceremony – the Cornish version of the Yule
Log. The Chalking of the Mock ceremony forms the ‘ritual heart’ of Montol, and
is the culmination of the 10pm procession down Chapel Street where festival
goers can follow musicians, guise performers, guise beasts and the Montol ‘Oss
down to the fire where the ceremony will take Place.
For more information about Montol and the full programme of
events, please visit the Montol website.
The Penwith Moot will be holding an Imbolc/Candlemas ritual
in Sancreed. Date and details to follow!
