Penwith Moot Lammas Ritual

2.00pm Sunday 14th August 2016
Bosavern Community Farm

The Penwith Pagan Moot will gather to mark Lammas or Lughnasadh; the reaping and resurrection of the spirit of the filed, a celebration of the bounteous gifts of the Old Ones, and our own personal harvests.

A working farm could not be a more appropriate venue for this ritual, and so we will be returning to the wonderful Bosavern Community Farm, near St Just.

Directions – coming west from Penzance on the A3071, turn left just before St Just onto the B3306 (towards the airfield and Sennen) after one bend the road goes downhill and the Farm is the first entrance you come to on the left, and will be marked by streamers on poles. The entrance is cobbled; go between the buildings and park in the yard, or go through the yard to park in the field, and you will be directed from there.

Suitable colours if you wish to wear them for this ritual would be reds and/or golds/yellows. Reasonable footwear is a good idea for the field  which is flat but slightly lumpy. Please bring – 1) firewood, 2) £2 towards costs as usual, 3) food and drink to share, 4)  a rug to sit on, or a fold up chair. 5) musical instruments, especially drums.

If the weather is too wet or windy, we will hold the ritual inside the farm's beautiful circular mud house.
Everybody Welcome,
Blessings

Beltane 2016

Penwith Moot Beltane Ritual

2.00pm Sunday 1st May 2016

Bosavern Community Farm

The Penwith Pagan Moot will gather to mark Beltane, the beginning of the summer tide, with a celebration of potency, fire and the marriage of the Goddess and the God.

This is the third of our Rituals written and led by Esoteric Author and Celebrant, Gemma Gary.

Our venue is at Bosavern Community Farm, near St Just. We will be able to have a maypole, and also a fire to jump, and there is a standing stone with a view of the sea and Chapel Carn Brea, and there is a compost toilet in another field.

Please wear red or fire colour clothes if you can, or at least some item such as a scarf, and as the ritual will be outdoors, you will need reasonable footwear for the field  which is flat but slightly lumpy. Please bring – 1) firewood, 2) £2 towards costs as usual, 3) food and drink to share, 4)  a rug to sit on, or a fold up chair. 5) musical instruments, especially drums.

Finally, if the weather is a little windy or rainy, we will hold an alternative ritual inside the wonderful circular mud house, so it will go ahead unless it is an absolute storm. If in doubt, phone Dave late morning, before 12.30pm.
Everybody Welcome,

Blessings

Dave

Imbolc 2016

Penwith Moot Imbolc Ritual
Sunday 31st Jan, 2.00pm at Sancreed Village Hall.

In the beautiful Penwith village of Sancreed with its ancient sacred well, we will gather to celebrate a simple and personal rite of contemplation, purification and celebration to mark the coming of Spring and the transformative mystery of the Goddess.
We will include the traditional walk to Sancreed well for a blessing, and the path is nearly always very muddy, so please bring wellie boots plus something else to wear in the hall.
Please wear something white or pale green, even if it just a token gesture such as a scarf, and please bring some food and drink to share as usual, plus £2 each towards costs.
Sancreed village hall is easy to find – coming from Penzance on the A30, at Drift take the right hand turn signposted Sancreed. The village hall is on the corner just past the church and there is plenty of parking on the road outside. The ritual is suitable for anyone disabled if they omit the walk to the well.
Everyone welcome.

Yule 2015

The Penwith Moot will not be organising a ritual for Yule this year, however moot members and friends are encouraged to visit Penzance on Monday the 21st of December to join in with the Montol Festival – a celebration of traditional Cornish midwinter customs including guise dancing, guise beasts, fires and the ‘Chalking of the Mock’ ceremony – the Cornish version of the Yule Log. The Chalking of the Mock ceremony forms the ‘ritual heart’ of Montol, and is the culmination of the 10pm procession down Chapel Street where festival goers can follow musicians, guise performers, guise beasts and the Montol ‘Oss down to the fire where the ceremony will take Place.
For more information about Montol and the full programme of events, please visit the Montol website.
The Penwith Moot will be holding an Imbolc/Candlemas ritual in Sancreed. Date and details to follow!

Penwith Moot Samhain Ritual 2015

7.00pm Saturday 31st October 2015
Bosavern Community Farm

This is the first of our Rituals written and led by Gemma Gary, the well known Esoteric Author and Celebrant, who writes -

‘The Hallows, Samhain and locally ‘Allantide’, marks the beginning of winter, when the ‘the Serpent’; the telluric fire and life force of the land withdraws into the earth, and we follow this fire on an inward journey of withdrawal. Upon this night, the way between the worlds is opened, and the spirits of the dead may freely cross into our world, and we may freely journey into theirs…

And so, this is a night of communion with our beloved ancestors, and of kindling and guarding the fire of the land as well as our own inner fires through the coming winter months. As the death of the old year, and the birth of the new, it is also a time of celebration and an affirmation of life.’

Our new venue is at Bosavern Community Farm, near St Just. They have built a wonderful circular straw and mud house, with a spiral entrance, a wavy wooden ceiling with turf on top, and varied artistic & recycled windows. It feels very organic and loved, and we are honoured to be the first to use it for an event, and our ritual will include a Blessing for it. There is a view of the sea and Chapel Carn Brea, we will be able to have a bonfire just outside the mud house, and there is a compost toilet in the other corner of the field.

Directions – coming west from Penzance on the A3071, turn left just before St Just onto the B3306 (towards the airfield and Sennen) after one bend the road goes downhill and the Farm is the first entrance you come to on the left, and will be marked by streamers on poles. The entrance is cobbled; go between the buildings and park in the yard, or go through the yard to park in the field – the mud house is 1 minutes walk across the field, so it is very easy access.

Please wear black, or dark clothes if you cannot manage black, and as the ritual will be mainly outdoors around the bonfire, you will need warm clothes and stout footwear – but it is not muddy, so you will not need wellie boots. Please bring – 1) firewood, 2) a small torch for your own use because the field is flat but slightly lumpy, 3) £2 towards costs as usual, 4) food and drink to share. 5) There is no seating, so bring a rug to sit on, or a fold up chair. 6) Musical instruments, especially drums. 7) A large, red apple.

Unlike other rituals, as this is the most serious one of the year, we ask that parents do not bring any small children who might be disruptive, or get frightened in the dark.  Finally, if the weather is a little windy or rainy, we will hold the ritual inside the mud house, so it will go ahead unless it is an absolute storm. If in doubt, phone Dave between mid-afternoon and 6.00pm.
Everybody Welcome,
Blessings
Dave

New Beginnings for the Penwith Pagan Moot

I’m delighted to be able to tell you that we have a new path forward for the moot - Gemma Gary, the well-known Esoteric writer and Celebrant, has offered to write and lead four rituals a year. For the other four rituals, we will, when possible, offer events that are mainly social get-togethers but which may contain an element of ritual. We also invite all people on this list to consider if they could offer any social events to the moot – a walk to an ancient site, a picnic, bar-be-que, a visit to gardens, etc.

Details of all these events will be given on the moot list, on the Yahoo group, on the Moot Facebook page, and here on the moot website. These events will provide ritual and sociability, and we hope that discussion of topics and other items of interest (which used to happen at moot meetings) could happen via the Yahoo and Facebook pages.

Our new rituals will begin with Samhain, Saturday 31st Oct, and we have an excellent new venue. Please book this date in your diaries now, and full details will be sent soon.

Autumn Blessings
